Main “Big Picture” Responsibilities at ETS
I help to support the design, development, and deployment of innovative teaching practices. With a background in library and information science, I research technology and implement it to support learning. I support all of the Faculty’s online courses, working directly with instructors to help them integrate technology with their teaching in effective, evidence-based, and innovative ways.
Day-to-Day Tasks at ETS
My job is to support the use of educational technology to enhance teaching and learning. At UBC the primary learning technology is Canvas, so I spend a lot of my time helping people learn how to maximize its benefits. I primarily support online courses, so it’s critical to make sure the technology is working smoothly. I collaborate with IT, CTLT, Library, and AV Services to optimize everything and make continuous improvements. Additionally, I am always working to curate, create, and share resources to help support faculty who want to try something new.
Specific Areas of Interest in the Field of Educational Technology
My current areas of focus include massive learning, online learning communities, and privacy. I believe in education as a social good. Expertise in these areas can help create the conditions for students to support each other in changing the world.
Your Work Within the ETS Office, and the Faculty of Education
My experience and work across the UBC community helps me connect people with the most useful information. Every Faculty needs someone who specializes in technology through the lens of education.
