Alternative Assessments
Wednesday, February 14 | 12pm – 1pm
During this workshop, we dived into alternative assessment practices that can be used in both online and face-to-face classrooms. We will introduce alternatives to traditional assessment tasks, while taking into account Universal Design for Learning principles, equity, diversity and inclusion, multi-modality, and the impact of generative AI. This workshop covered:
• Aligning assessments with learning outcomes
• Leveraging technology for alternative assessment;
• Incorporating alternative assessments to support Equity, Diversity and Inclusion;
•Practical ideas for your classroom.

Zoom and Accessibility

During this workshop, we showcased practices and features to make your Zoom Meetings more accessible. With Zoom being an essential technology in our teaching, learning, and working spaces, it is important that all your participants are able to fully experience the content of your meeting. Many of these features are tucked away in the settings, meaning that accessibility is just a toggle away. This workshop covered:
• Overview of Zoom and the need for accessible meetings
• Recordings, audio transcripts and captioning
• Using Zoom’s interactive features accessibly.

High Tea with AI
Tuesday, January 23 | 12pm – 1pm
This workshop marked the kickoff of our High Tea and AI series! During this event, we delved into the ways AI features in Padlet, Canva, GitMind, Copilot, and AI Tutor Pro can elevate engagement in learning. Participants also enjoyed a delightful spread of delicious treats throughout the session.

Orientation to Learning Technologies for Instructors
Thursday, January 4 | 2pm – 3pm
During this orientation workshop, new Faculty of Education instructors explored the services and learning technologies available at UBC. We looked into how technology can be used to improve your teaching experience, and how to find support if you need it. This session covered:
• Overview of UBC Learning Technology Ecosystem
• Technical support and recommendation for tools and technologies
• UBC Technologies
• UBC Technology Services
• Intro to the Canvas LMS

UDL Fellows Program – 2024 Cohort

During this workshop, LDDI helped faculty with their Universal Design for Learning (UDL) Fellows Program applications. We provided consultation regarding pedagogical solutions; technical support and recommendations; evaluation strategies; project management; budget planning; and liaising with other units.
LDDI Game Club

LDDI successfully hosted a game event aimed at gathering before the holidays and seizing the opportunity to support filling the selves of the AMS Food Bank. Our festive LDDI Games Day Fundraiser occurred on November 28 at 12pm in room 1008.
TEC Expo 2023

The Technology Enhanced Classroom (TEC) Expo was created as an annual event designed to showcase and celebrate interesting and innovative uses of technology in face-to-face, blended, and online classrooms within the Faculty of Education. TEC Expo was open to all members of the UBC community, across disciplines and University locations.
The tenth TEC Expo was a two-day-long celebration, on November 7th and 8th. It consists of a combination of in-person and virtual engaging conversations.
Halloween Games Day
Tuesday, October 31 | 12pm – 1pm
LDDI hosted spooktacular Halloween Games Day in Scarfe 1008. You had the option to bring your own games or join one of ours, giving everyone the chance to connect with some fabulous folks over some friendly competition.
