The App for October is Remind.
What is it?
Remind makes classroom communication easier. Tired of unread emails and students losing your paper handouts? Remind allows teachers to text parents and students with reminders, homework assignments, motivational messages and more while keeping phone numbers private.
What is ‘Remind’?:
Why this app?
Remind can help you organize class communication. You can save time by scheduling all your class reminders ahead of time. The app also lets you to message an entire class of students, or multiple classes so you don’t have to manage a list of student emails. With read receipts, so you can easily keep track of who hasn’t viewed your message. You can also see how people are receiving your messages based on their notification settings.
Enhance Your Communication
Remind allows you to better engage with parents and students. Do parents have a question but can’t come in to speak to you one-on-one? Does your student have a question about their homework but are sick at home? Use real-time messaging. Another communication barrier is if a student’s parents have limited or no proficiency in English. Remind can help you overcome this barrier by being able to translate messages into over 70 languages.
How does it work?
Remind is available for download on the Apple Store and the Google Play Store. To get started, you can create a free account. Next, you need to create a class and add participants to your class. You can also connect parents with your students. Once you have your class set up, you can start communicating with students and parents.
To send an announcement select the class you want to send it to and a field to compose your message will pop up. Want to send the same message to more people? Click on the ‘to:’ field at the top of the composer to add more classes or individuals. To schedule announcements click on the schedule button at the bottom of the composer.
To translate a message into a different language, click on the globe icon when you are composing a message to select a language.
