UBC is transitioning to Canvas. Take a look at Canvas’ main features.
UBC’s Learning Management System (LMS)
Connect (Blackboard Learn 9.1) was UBC’s primary learning platform prior to Canvas. UBC is currently in the transition from Connect to Canvas, however Connect will still be used up till September 2018. All UBC credit courses received Connect shells, but their use is entirely optional. In Connect, instructors can share content (text, files, media), enable student collaboration, manage assignments and quizzes, and assign grades. ETS provides extensive support to faculty on Connect use and troubleshooting.
edX and Moodle are also part of UBC’s Learning Technology Environment. edX is geared towards hosting courses with large numbers of participants, such as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), or Professional Development programs. For an overview of edX and how it is used at UBC, please visit: http://flexible.learning.ubc.ca/about-edx-edge/. Moodle has similar features and affordances as Connect. Instructors who are interested in Moodle can contact ETS for a Moodle course shell hosted on the Education server. Support for edX and Moodle is limited, and provided on a case-by-case basis.
