Supported Learning Technologies

We provide support both for the integration of learning technologies and technologically innovative teaching. This page catalogues the learning technologies we support. If you would like guidance in selecting the most effective tools to support your objectives, we are here to help.

UBC’s Learning Management System

Connect (Blackboard Learn 9.1) is UBC’s current primary learning platform. All UBC credit courses receive Connect shells, but their use is entirely optional. In Connect, instructors can share content (text, files, media), enable student collaboration, manage assignments and quizzes, and assign grades. ETS provides extensive support to faculty on Connect use and troubleshooting.

edX and Moodle are also part of UBC’s Learning Technology Environment. edX is geared towards hosting courses with large numbers of participants, such as Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs), or Professional Development programs. For an overview of edX and how it is used at UBC, please visit: http://flexible.learning.ubc.ca/about-edx-edge/. Moodle has similar features and affordances as Connect. Instructors who are interested in Moodle can contact ETS for a Moodle course shell hosted on the Education server. Support for edX and Moodle is limited, and provided on a case-by-case basis.
