The App for November is Nearpod.
What is it?
Nearpod lets teachers create interactive lessons with polls, videos and even virtual reality. Learning about ancient Egypt? Get your students to visit the pyramids without leaving the classroom with virtual reality. By giving students a code, you can sync your live lesson to all student devices so they can follow along with you and participate.
What is ‘Nearpod’?:
Get your students participating in class! Here are some activities you can add to your Nearpod lesson.
Why this app?
Nearpod helps you get your students engaged in your lessons. Are some students too shy to raise their hand during class? Let them answer questions from their device. Did one of your students miss a class or did not understand everything during the lesson? Students can go over the lesson again and learn at their own pace. Want to know your students’ understanding of the material? View student answers to questions individually or as a class or even generate a post-session report.
How does it work?
The Nearpod app is available for download on the Apple Store and Google Play Store. To get started you need to create a free teacher account as a teacher. Next, you want to create your first lesson. To create a new lesson:
- Click ‘+New’ in the top left hand corner and select ‘Lesson’ from the drop-down menu.
- Next, click ‘Add Slide.’
- Now a new menu will appear. You can select between ‘Add Content’, ‘Add Web Content’ (a website URL) and ‘Add Activity.’ You can also select ‘Slide Editor’ to choose the layout of your slide and add text or images.
- Once you have finished your entire slide set with all the content you want, click ‘Create’ in the bottom right hand corner. A pop up will appear where you can edit the lesson details, such as the grade and subject.
- Once you are done adding the lesson details, hit ‘Create’ again at the bottom of the pop up window and your lesson will automatically be addded to your library.
Want inspiration for your next lesson? You can even attend a live webinar for ideas on how to use Nearpod in your classroom. Can’t attend a live session? There are also self-paced webinars for you to do on your own time.
have more questions on how to use Nearpod? They also have a help center where you can search through frequently asked questions or contact Nearpod directly.
